| Patty O’Connell Certified Pilates Instructor
Body Arts and Science International
Patty began the practice of ballet for physical therapy in 1968 in Los Angeles and continued on with her dancing passion after moving to Santa Barbara in 1975. Patty started her fitness career in weight training until she was introduced to Pilates in 1999. In 2001, after two years of education, training, and practicing Pilates, Patty received her certification through Body Arts and Science International. This education walked her through a six month comprehensive and very extensive study of human movement and anatomy relating specifically to the works of Joseph H. Pilates. Patty personally trained with the BASI owner/operator, the internationally renowned Rael Isacowitz. BASI has extended it’s Pilates philosophy to many countries and the training program is now being taught on a global level.
After graduating Patty worked as an independent contractor at Blue Star Rising, Lena’s Studio and the Fitness Gallery in Santa Barbara until opening her own business “Precision Pilates” in Montecito, Ca. Finally deciding to fulfill her dream to relocate to the Islands in 2005, Patty transported herself along with her Pilates equipment and continued Precision Pilates in Kihei and Launiupoko as well as working at the Ritz Carlton and Sheraton Hotels.
Patty is a purest, when it comes to her Pilates teaching believing it is not simply the process of building strength and balance but also keeps us centered. The development of the mind/body connection is vital to the work keeping the spirit vibrant and alive. Pilates is not only an exercise program, it is preventative medicine as well as for the repair and healing of injury.
